The team at Sessions Arts Club had 18 months to prepare for the long-delayed opening, and it shows – especially in the beautifully run-down space that immediately joins the list of London’s most beautiful rooms. Session Arts Club is at home on the fourth floor of a landmark courthouse in Clerkenwell. The entrance is deliberately hidden and those who find it will be amazed at first by the variety of art, the hidden terraces, the pool on the roof or the imposing chandelier. From some angles the location looks like an old colonial building in Havana, from others like a fading Kenyan hotel. And then there’s Florence Knight’s food – a trompe l’oeil pairing of octopus with calamarata pasta happens to have a perfectly matched, flawless sauce; a petit aioli is shockingly unadorned, but each component is exactly where its temperature and texture need to be. Wow.
