Tokyo sleeps, Tsukiji awakes. The largest fish market in the world starts anew every night. To be more precise, the sellers on the 23 hectare fish market are already whirling around at 3 o’clock. After all, they do everything they can to ensure that the daily tuna auction can begin at 5.30 am. It’s hard to believe, but forty thousand fish are sold here, one every three seconds. Around 6 a.m., when the auction comes to an end, the wholesalers begin to distribute the fish in the large hall. The hustle and bustle on the market continues until 8 am. A unique experience! Afterwards you can treat yourself to an iodine-containing breakfast in one of the side streets, including a wafer-thin slice of fish.
