A ceramic frog playing guitar at the pool – and much more rock ‘n roll is to be found in this motley hotel in the rocked-down Tenderloin District in Little Saigon. Bands get discount and among the guests you’ll find Radiohead, Sonic Youth, Bowie and Pearl Jam. Chip Conley designed this former motel with works of local artists, and the often large 41 rooms are surprisingly reserved with subtle shades and quite a classic design. Some have a direct access to the pool. Do take care though that if you require a non-smoking room to reserve this. In the golden restaurant Chambers you’ll have no trouble picking something from the menu, which offers dishes ranging from chicken liver, to duck breast, to vegetable plates and good drinks.
