The Deck at Hidden Valley is the perfect place to go for an uncomplicated and casual lunch. The concept is self-service, gourmet burgers, a glass of wine and a breathtaking view of the vineyards. What more could you want? Behind it all is the bearded-cool celebrity chef Bertus Basson, who also runs the award-winning gourmet restaurant Overture. With The Deck at Hidden Valley – which, by the way, is actually located on a dam – he wanted to create an alternative to his gourmet address in Stellenbosch, where the menu was to revolve mainly around two stars: free-range cheeseburgers and wood-oven pizza.
