For more than a hundred years, the Safa has been “meyhane”, a kind of pub for drinking raki (aniseed spirits). Nothing has changed here from the time it opened; Their white walls are covered in pictures of Mustafa Kamel Atatürk, the high ceiling is full of fans. Snacks like “borek”, flaky pastry with cheese, “pastirma” (ham) and poached eggs in yoghurt are the perfect accompaniment whilst drinking “raki”.
