Even if you are not a doughnut fan, you should stop by at Pip’s Original for their unforgetable golden crispy and warm mini doughnuts. Locally owned and operated by husband-and-wife duo Nate and Jamie Snell, Pip’s was awarded the prize for best doughnut in Portland by for their honey and sea salt flavor. Nate and Jamie fashioned their miniature doughnuts after Pike Place’s Daily Dozen in Seattle, but with an eye for healthy frying methods and hyper-local flavors. Beside the fresh, made-as-you-watch doughnuts, Pip´s features coffee and espresso locally roasted by Extracto Coffee Roasters, and a selection of house-crafted chai tea lattes. Perched on busy strip of Northeast Fremont, Pip’s is the quintessential neighborhood spot: Walls are painted sky blue with wispy clouds, vintage Lifestyle magazines from the 1940’s are clipped to the wall, and a communal guitar sits in the corner, waiting to be played. Inside tip: On weekends, anyone who plays a full song on the cafe’s community guitar gets free doughnuts.
