Outerlands is a favorite restaurant in the Sunset. The walls and bar, covered in recycled wood, are lit from hanging light bulbs and the public is a nice mix of neighborhood locals and Mission hipsters. Each dish is perfectly composed and executed whether its the lukewarm mussel, flowering fennel, anise seed and Meyer lemon salad, the smoked ham sandwich with apple, caramelized onions, Gruyere and black pepper aioli (lunchtime only!) or the dark chocolate, salty caramel and rosemary Pot de Crème. Whether lunch or dinner, just to be on the safe side, make sure to come half-an-hour before opening and get your name on the list. You can easily wait it out at either Trouble Coffee or General Store, both nearby.
