In the heart of Marseille’s old town, not far from the Vieux Port, the Musée Cantini presents an exceptional permanent exhibition of works by Picasso, Matisse and Cézanne, as well as lesser-known artists such as Miró and Jean Dubuffet. The museum is an important cultural venue in the port city. Its history dates back to 1694, when it was built as a small hotel. It was not until 1936, after the purchase by the sculptor Jules Cantini, that it was transformed into a museum. In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are also changing special exhibitions.
