Palermo is famous for its street markets, and each quarter has its own. Our recommendation: the Mercato del Capo. We think it is the most beautiful. The Mercato del Capo leads through the Capo quarter of Via Sant’Agostino along Piazza Beati Paoli to Porta Carina. The fruit and vegetable stalls are lined up to the right and left of each other in the narrow street. Here you will find Sicilian delicacies such as saffron, salt capers or pistachios of the best quality at very reasonable prices. The impressive Chiese di Sant’Agostino rises majestically in the middle. If you are already here, don’t miss a look into the church (Monday – Saturday 8.00 – 12.00 and 16.00 – 18.00, Sunday 8.00 – 12.00). If you are thirsty, you should go for refreshment to the Chiosco Beati Paoli in Piazza Beati Paoli. Here you can buy cool drinks around the clock – especially the homemade lemonade lemonade is good. A trip to the Capo district is a unique experience: Sicilian women sit here with curlers and hairnets on deckchairs on the street, fan up fresh air and exchange the latest gossip, in addition the air conditioners hum on the house walls, and basil grows on old doors that stand wildly around. A pleasure! Like a theatre backdrop from another era.
