Lokal is effectively the successor of Kantine, that restaurant originally opened for the Chipperfield architects, which, thanks to its excellent cuisine and interior design, became a much loved dinner spot. After the demolition the restaurant has picked up where it left off at a nearby location and still under the leadership of Chef du Cuisine Gary Hoopengardner. In the simple white and wood interior bathed in warm light, you’ll discovery delicacies like beef sirloin with cherry chutney, a cheeseburger accompanied by hand-cut potato slivers, homemade tomato chutney and mayonnaise, and handmade pasta with carrot pesto. The portions are abundant and the unpretentious wait staff is just as is impressive as the cuisine. Just as popular at lunch as at dinner, a table can be hard to come by, so best to reserve in advance.
