It’s hard to believe, but the inn has been in the family for 22 generations. It has never been sold, but has always been inherited – since 1447, when the Hitziger first appeared in official records as “Wirth von Selhueben”. Today the house is managed with passion by Lena Hitziger. She has expanded and still relies on the in-house butchery with the sausages and meat specialties. Today there are even TV folk music recordings in the inn, there is a small hotel and a glass new building. It is always full of locals, tourists and also Marc O’Polo’s employees, who reside with their headquarters in nearby Stephanskirchen. That’s why you should definitely make a reservation and insist on a place in the old Gasttube, simply because it is so much nicer. In summer, the especially beautiful beer garden is worth a visit. Try the wool sausages with gravy – a classic. Also good is the Steckperlfisch from Chiemsee and Kaiserschmarren, which is perfectly prepared and not too sweet with the apple and plum sauce. You should also drink a hot wheat beer, which is prepared with more help than usual, ferments in the bottle and is naturally cloudy. The Hitziger says, “it makes you more beautiful” – the tart taste reminds of banana.
