First of all you have to describe the place: You drive for a while through small villages until you can’t go any further – then two houses appear at the top of the hill – on the right the Gupf itself, a wonderful old wooden farmhouse and on the left a farm – that’s where the owner and cook Walter Klose lives with his family. Otherwise there is the breathtaking view of the valley. On one side the Lake Constance and on the other side already the Alps and an endless valley. That alone is worth the visit! The restaurant is a gourmet temple of old school. Service is a matter of course here and so you will be warmly served by the staff from the very beginning. That has something. The rooms are furnished in a stylish but dignified way, noble materials, open fire and at the same time relaxed in a pleasant way. There is enough space between the tables to maintain a confidential atmosphere. The food creates the balance between highly tuned gourmet cuisine and traditional dishes. Otherwise there are many small snacks such as beef tartar with quail egg, sashimi with sesame sauce, but also suckling pig with mashed potatoes and mushroom beans. In the cellar there is a high tech wine cellar of “James Bond”, with many treasures – if you want, you can try unique wines or just watch the whole thing during lunch. The Gupf is a complete package of service, location, wine ceremony and gourmet cuisine with good portions, which has its price. Our special tip to enjoy this unique atmosphere for once: A lunch menu is available from only 42,- CHF. There is also a ten room at Gupf – they cost about 260,- CHF.
