The Shinjuku Golden Gai is a remnant of the immediate post-war period and is one of the historical nightclubs, called ‘Yokocho’ in Japanese, which were common in the big cities of Japan in the 1950s. It is truly a small hidden world in the historic Shinjuku quarter, just 500 metres from the railway station. There are six small streets with about 300 micro-bars and restaurants, which are mostly so small that only a handful of guests can be seated and open late at night. It is mainly thanks to writers, photographers and actors that this quarter still exists. They have made this place an attraction and regularly come and go here. The 3 best bars in the street are the small bar: Happy, Bar Darling and Kenzo’s Bar
