One should not be deterred from the formerly unattractive location in the touristic shopping corner of Nieuwdijk, nearby the railway station district. The way to Gebroeders Niemeijer is worth it. Once you enter the café-bakery and the fine French pastries and sourdough loaves are fired up, you’re privy to the special, sweet aroma rising from the open ovens in the basement. A true retreat oasis and the perfect place for breakfast or lunch. The pains au chocolat belong to the best in the city; the walnut-fig rolls and the pizza bianca are famous and unforgettable. For lunch delicious sandwiches are served, which one can enjoy either in the gallery or in the basement with a view of the baking ovens.
