Ferchensee is a three kilometre long and not strenuous hike away from Schloss Elmau. Then you experience a lake at an altitude of 1060 metres with crystal-clear water, pike, hiking, tench and trout, which shoot over the water surface again and again in high jumps. All this can be observed directly from the beer garden of the Gasthaus Ferchensee, which lies directly on the lake. There you should definitely try the clitschy, homemade apple strudel with cream – better for two, because you mean it well with the portions. We also recommend the Ferchenseer Knödeltris with bacon, cask and spinach dumplings with melted butter and fresh Parmesan cheese. After the “work” is done, just sigh and enjoy the view of the Kranzberg.
In summer it’s worth laying on the clear lake played by mountain lakes, taking a refreshing swim or renting a boat at the inn, or keeping your own rod in the water during the fishing season from May to October. The hike can continue for another 30 minutes in the direction of Mittenwald to Lautersee or right into Mittenwald. There is also a bus directly at Ferchensee for those who are lazy on foot.
