In the center of the warehouse district, alongside one of the surrounding little canals is the Fleetschlösschen, an architectural jewel made of red brick. The building was constructed in 1885 as a customs house, and originally stood all on its own. Later it served as a fire watch-house, and even a toilet block. Nowadays the Fleetschlösschen is a very special place, but only since 2004 when it was acquired and lovingly renovated by Christian Oehler. There is hardly a more charming place for a breakfast or afternoon coffee, as the warm sunlight passes over the roofs of the warehouses and casts long shadows through small window on the rough wooden tables. At noon the place gets filled with regulars who know how to appreciate the colorful cuisine, from light wraps to robust stews. Variety is at the core of the concept here. And whoever is looking for something even more special can order a pot of ‘golden tea’, which is provided by the local Iranian carpet dealers and in which red saffron strands swim like coral.
