Named after the founder of modern surfing, the Hawaiian Duke Kahanamoku, who in the 30s revolutionized how to ride the waves. The name isn’t for naught. Owners Ronny Portulidis and Jorge Campos are passionate surfers who have idolized the Duke in their work as well as leisure time. Always in search of bigger and better waves, Jorge bummed around the globe while Ronny learned to cook from the Pike. At duke, they bring together relaxed Hawaiian surfer atmosphere with a quite impressive menu, in which Ronny mixes dishes rooted in the Mediterranean with pacific and Southeast Asian influences. This culinary “culture clash” has produced some extraordinary takes on otherwise ordinary dishes: the Peruvian national dish ceviche under Ronny’s gentle hand becomes an form, color and aroma experience in which sea bass and avocado meet on a cold pea soup. Equally simple and ingenious: a dessert from chocolate ice cream, local olive oil, sea salt and fresh fruit! The clientele is also out of the ordinary, only at the Duke have we encountered such a fascinating mix.
