Ticino has no shortage of churches. Almost every village, no matter how small, has one or even two. In contrast to the simple stone churches, the modern church Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista by Mario Botta is a beautiful exception. The opportunity arose because an avalanche destroyed the old church in the small hamlet of Mogno in the Maggia Valley. The elliptical building with sloping roof and black and white stripes is a masterpiece of architecture. The church was built in 1992-1996.
