In the enchanting Piazza della Consolata directly opposite the church Santuario della Consolata lies the beautiful Caffè Al Bicerin. If you now expect a typical Italian bar, you are wrong. Contrary to what one can expect in many other cafés, here, one does not quickly get an espresso at the bar but sits comfortably at a table and is served. On a Sunday morning, it can already happen that one has to wait for a place – because the café is popular, also with the locals who want to enjoy the cosiness in the interior or the sunshine in the piazza. The café itself is also surrounded by wood-panelled walls, small marble tables and the bar, behind which there is a whole gallery of bonbonnières. Thus, the Al Bicerin is also something for bad weather.
The speciality that one should definitely try is the bicerin: a hot espresso mixed with hot chocolate and filled with creamy milk foam. This not only tastes good, but is also a special experience due to the mix of hot liquid and cool foam. Also recommended is the Cornetto with Gianduia, a sweet hazelnut cream, or the Gil Zabajoni (for Italian connoisseurs: no spelling mistake, it goes like that in Piedmont!), the well-known egg foam with Marsala.
