A legendary place! The Bel Air was opened in the mid-1940s with a swan pond and bridge over which the film stars and other guests reached the Hideaway. It now belongs to the Sultan of Brunei, who reopened it in 2012. Swan Lake still exists, as does the pale pink façade – it is still an oasis today, surrounded by gardens of lush green. The restaurant is now part of the Wolfgang Puck Empire, one of the city’s greats who also cooks the Oscar dinner, and the hotel itself has been updated with flair by David Rockwell and Alexandra Champalimaud: in the most beautiful white and with an interior where the plush has been eliminated and replaced by a clear design.
