The Osteria is a masterpiece of the high art of filling tradition and ancient grandeur with fresh, authentic life. The waiters in white shirts with dark ties and green aprons are scurrying through the restaurant. In the front room older men sit at dark wooden tables, drink their first glass of wine at noon and eat Grissini with Prosciutto crudo di Carpegna. In the back room, you can eat excellently at tables discreetly set with white coasters and red napkins. Severino Barzan designed the wine glasses himself. The dishes of the day are on a slate table, which hangs behind the counter between oriental lamps made of bulbous wine bottles. Famous are the Risotto all’Amarone, the horse meat dishes and the Tortino di Sarde con Verdure. And also the wine cellar is impressive and excellently equipped.
On the walls of the Antica Bottega del Vino, bottles of wine line up on wooden shelves side by side and on top of each other like in a wine museum, between them hangs an old map of renowned wine regions, small paintings are on the walls, the wooden beams are decorated again and again with small patterns in yellow, red and green, and in the ceiling beams are carved toasts. Light penetrates only through the yellowish beefy wine bottle bottoms into the ancient dining room, whose history dates back to the 15th century.
