Al Matarel is a true institution in the centre of Milan. The restaurant opened its doors in 1962, thanks to the passion of Mrs. Elide and the good Marco, a couple of restaurateurs who are inseparable in work and in life. The restaurant has always been visited by artists, journalists, politicians and celebrities, and has thus become an address for the upscale Milanese scene. Not much has changed until today – the famous Osso Bucco with saffron risotto is still served. The service is very friendly and helpful, the furnishings are still as weird as they were over 50 years ago. The walls are painted and make the restaurant itself a work of art. One drawback is that the food is really not cheap. It is arguable whether one cannot eat the same way elsewhere for less money, but then certainly not with so much history and unique ambience.
