This is Portland. The outpost of the Seattle-based Ace Group is in Portland – a boutique hotel of a different kind. Only a few things remind you of the former Clyde Hotel. Instead, one eye-catcher after the other catches the eye here: old factory furniture, clamp lights or discarded military utensils – all combined with objects by local artists. Freaked out, but beautiful. Not all of the 70 or so rooms have their own bathroom, but when they do, they usually have an antique bathtub with lion feet. The rooms also surprise with illustrated books, record players and high-quality linen bed linen. No wonder that behind most of the guests there are real creative people! And the best wake-up coffee in town is also available in Ace – from one of Portland’s most legendary coffee companies.
